Can I purchase prescription safety frames without lenses from Ultimate Optical?
No, the prescription safety frames cannot be purchased separately as they have to be fitted with certified lenses.
What is the impact resistance on uvex safety frames?
All uvex safety frames are marked with a mechanical strength of F, low-energy impact (45m/sec). However, if a lower impact lens, CR39/glass (12m/sec), is fitted the frame classification automatically goes down to (12m/sec).
Do all lenses (CR39/Polycarbonate/Trivex) have the same scratch resistance?
Yes, the same hard coating is applied to all of the above lenses.
What can be done to prevent lenses from fogging up, especially when working underground?
We have a solution called Anti-fog that prevents the lenses from fogging up.
What would you recommend for a worker working close to extreme heat, like a furnace?
A face shield is recommended for this environment.
Why can't I just use an overspec over my regular frames?
Wearing two pairs of spectacles can create prism and/or distortion. The overspec does adhere to safety regulations, but in the case of an impact, the worker's own lenses can cause injury as the impact will be transferred to the frame closest to the face.
What will happen if a person removes the side shields from a frame, or modify any part of the frame?
All liabilities/warranties will be wavered.
How do I know if my protective eyewear is EN approved?
EN 166 requires manufacturers to provide specific markings on safety glasses and goggles.
The frames and lenses have a visible marking of W 1 F CE
W - uvex family
1 - optical standard
F - impact resistance of 45m/s
CE - European conformity
